The quality of our air is important to all of us and we all have a part to play in maintaining good air quality. This section contains information and reports on projects that aim to increase the understanding and engagement of individuals and communities in air quality.
Air pollution has the potential to damage our health and environment, and as such it is important for us to consider the air quality in the areas in which we live. The University of Stirling are working alongside the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and with support from Stirling Council, to organise a series of community-based workshop events across Stirlingshire.
Air pollution has the potential to damage our health and environment. Children are more susceptible to the effects of air pollution, and as such it is important for us to consider areas in which they are potentially exposed to elevated levels, such as at the school gates. East Renfrewshire Council with support from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), are working with the local schools to improve air quality and safety at the school gates.
Local traffic can affect local air pollution, particularly around areas of congestion or where vehicles sit idling, such as outside school gates. Children are more susceptible to the effects of air pollution, therefore traffic idling around the school gates can be a real concern. Traffic around the school during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times can increase children’s exposure to elevated levels of air pollution as they go to and from school.
