Scotland's soils: the gateway to soils data & information
After a year of user analysis, development and user testing, we are pleased to announce the release of the newly updated website. Changes and improvements have been made in response to users’ needs for improved access to data and information to help day-to-day decision making.

On the Scotland’s soils website you will find a range of maps, along with links to where you can download the data associated with them, which can be used for a variety of purposes including helping inform planning and development decisions. The website also provides background information on the soils found in Scotland, what they do, why they are important, the threats they face and what is being done to protect them.
The Scotland’s soils website is part of the Scotland’s environment family, and was developed in partnership with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), James Hutton Institute (JHI), NatureScot, Forestry Commission Scotland (FCS) and the Scottish Government.
The website will continue to be updated and new tools will be developed in response to user feedback. Our aim is to ensure that soils data and information is provided in a way that is useful and will help inform decisions.
